The Gatwick Express

Gatwick Airport, which has its own express non-stop service several times an hour, is roughly half-way along the Brighton line. Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth (for Hardy’s country) are from London Waterloo, which also serves Ports-mouth by a direct line and a secondary route to Devon via Salisbury (for the cathedral and Stonehenge) which eventually joins the Paddington-Devon-Cornwall trunk route at Exeter. All the lines south of London have frequent services, mainly by electric trains, but watch for trains that are divided to serve two destinations and make sure you travel in the right section.
